Chile is characterized by having a phyto and zoo sanitary heritage unique in the world due to the natural barriers generated by Atacama Desert in the north, Andes Mountains in the east and Pacific Ocean to the west and south. Moreover, Chile’s central and southern areas are characterized by a climate with four clearly defined seasons, like northern Europe. This allows Maltexco have locally grown high-quality barley, only comparable with the best in the world.


To grow barley Maltexco has a highly trained agricultural department, which conducts continuing advice to farmers to ensure to obtain best barley, from planting to harvest.

The varieties seed by us are only certified 2-row spring varieties.

Pearled barley is an ingredient that has been cultivated since ancient times, being very common in winter soups, when these dishes were commonly served as starters. On those days the barley was used to improve the taste and nutrition of these thick soups


The barley is subjected to an abrasive process that removes the outer shell of the kernels ("husk") leaving it shiny. This product could be whole or split depending on your needs.

  • Its main features are:
  • High level of soluble fiber (beta glucans)
  • High level of protein (10 to 12%)
  • Great source of energy (78 to 80% carbohydrate)
  • Low-fat (up 1.2%)


This makes pearled barley an ideal food to be eaten during the growing process. It’s a cereal with several benefits such as detoxifying at stomach, refreshing, acts as an intestinal antiseptic and inhibits the production of cholesterol.

It is a 100% natural product, made by roasting of the barley. The high temperatures at which grain is exposed give it a taste, aroma and color similar to coffee.

The roasted barley is therefore an excellent substitute for coffee, with the advantage that it does not contain caffeine and is more cost convenient than coffee beans.


Thanks to our highly automated process, we are able to offer different color levels of roasted barley depending on the customer needs.
